National Award presentations will be made at the 30th Anniversary of the Association of Black Women in Higher Education
Conference at Princeton University
October 9-11, 2008
Annually the national board of ABWHE presents awards to women of distinguished leadership, scholarship and service in the academy. This year the (3) award categories and criteria are as follows:
(1) Lifetime Achievement Award
(2) Leadership in Higher Education Award
(3) Graduate Student Award.
A profile of the nominee requires a biographical sketch and support information that informs the Committee of the candidate's leadership role(s), academic and professional achievements, and public service, as referenced in the criteria.

AWARDS CRITERIA:
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD:
Will be awarded to an individual who has had a long career in higher education with outstanding leadership accomplishments in public service. The individual must possess demonstrated:
- Advancement and Leadership: Someone who has risen through the ranks in Education and has made a profound and positive impact on the lives of student's intellectual, social, and emotional development.
- Mentorship: Someone who distinguishes herself as a leader and advocate through mentoring other educators.
- Advocacy: One who is contributing to the ideals of education by providing vision, leadership, and guidance in the advancement of public education, higher education, and research and development.
OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP IN HIGHER EDUCATION AWARD:
The nominee must be currently employed in the field of Higher Education and who has demonstrated extensive leadership and public service. This individual must have demonstrated the following:
- A career tract that describes diverse experiences on many levels of education.
- A profile of accomplishments including: professional memberships and offices, awards, recognition, and or publication(s).
- Service, advocacy and mentoring in Higher Education.
GRADUATE STUDENT AWARD:
The nominee must be currently in the latter part of graduate study, pursuing a
a career in Higher Education. The nomination must accompany the following details:
- Two letters of recommendation from previous or current professors.
- A profile of participation and involvement in professional and public service organization(s)and other affiliations.
- A brief statement of career goals and aspirations.
