Virtual Chapter

Greetings Sisters!

It is with much excitement, joy, and pride that we extend greetings on behalf of the Virtual Chapter of the Association of Black Women In Higher Education (ABWHE). Officially installed as a chapter in October 2020, the Virtual Chapter is committed to furthering the goals of the organization through service to Black youth as well as support and professional development opportunities for Black women in the academy. Through programming and projects like Sister Check-Ins, Mentoring Youth, Professional Development Opportunities, and Partnership with other service organizations, we have curated an inclusive and safe space for Black women to share and authentically “BE” through a virtual community.

Since its inception, ABWHE has served as a forum for developing strategies to improve the quality of education of Black people, with particular emphasis on encouraging Black youth to take full advantage of available educational opportunities. ABWHE is committed to aiding Black women in the academy in fulfilling their own aspirations as well as encouraging black youth to pursue their education. We invite you to join us on the third Monday of each month at 7 PM CST / 8 PM EST to connect and fellowship with sisters around the country through a virtual platform. Sessions last 30 minutes for one keynote speaker and 60 minutes for two presenters after chapter announcements. Connect with us on Facebook and Instagram to see upcoming flyers and events. Chapter Leadership

Dion Lucas

Virtual Chapter President

Dion Lucas joined ABWHE in 2023 to support Black women in higher education. She currently serves as National Secretary and President of the Virtual Chapter while pursuing her doctorate in education emphasis on curriculum and instruction.

Dr. Rosalind Kennerson-Baty

Virtual Chapter Vice President

Dr. Rosalind Kennerson-Baty (affectionately known as Dr. Roz) serves as vice president of the Virtual Chapter and co-chair of the chapter development committee. She joined ABWHE in 2022 because she believes in fostering enriching professional relationships that create support networks for Black women.

Dr. Chastity Gaither-DeVoe

Virtual Chapter Treasurer

Dr. Chastity Gaither-DeVoe (aka Dr. Chaz Voe), currently serves as Treasurer of the Virtual Chapter of ABWHE, where she is the chartering and Immediate Past President. A dedicated member since 2017, she previously served in the role of National Scholarship Chair. Living out ABWHE’s mission - Dr. Chaz uses her voice and expertise to create spaces that empower, elevate, and equip Black women leaders.

Tye Barnett

Virtual Chapter Treasurer

Tye Barnett joined ABWHE in 2023 allowing us to partner with Hindsight Media Radio, where she co-chairs the station in Atlanta, Georgia. She serves as our Virtual Chapter Secretary connecting Black women to resources both near and far.

Live Out Loud: Teen Girl Empowerment Summit

This FREE 2.5-hour event will focus on well-being, servant leadership, and the college experience – inclusive of a College Student Panel. There will be games, prizes, and giveaways! This is an amazing opportunity for middle and high school girls.
